Planned Gifts to United Methodist Women/Women's Division
UMW is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. UMW works to build a supportive community among women; to be an advocate for the oppressed and dispossessed with special attention to the needs of women and children; and to engage in activities that foster growth in the Christian faith, mission education, and Christian social involvement through United Methodist Women.
Rachel Swift, age 83 has been a life long member of Colgate United Methodist Church. She has served as an officer in her UMW Unit and as an active mission volunteer. She would like to remember her local church, local UMW Unit, and favorite mission interest; the many children of Africa who have been orphaned by war, famine, and disease. However, Rachel has a sister for whom she wants to provide an income for life.
When consulting with her attorney, Rachel finds that if she predeceases her sister, she can provide for her during the remainder of her lifetime as well as remembering her favorite United Methodist missions and ministries. Rachel's attorney drafts a will that will ensure her sister is adequately provided for and a bequest provision is included giving the "remainder interest" of her estate to be divided equally between her three favorite mission interests.
