Accessibility Grants
The Hispanic Leadership Development Fund
In 1986, the former Health and Welfare Ministries Program established the Hispanic Leadership Development Fund. Grants are made annually to persons of Hispanic descent from North, South, and Central America and islands of the Western Hemisphere who are pursuing a health-related career or a health care practitioner advancing in the health care field.

The Harry R. Kendall Project Fund
Harry R. Kendall was a co-owner and founder of the Washington National Life Insurance Company of Evanston, Illinois. Prior to his death in 1958, a large part of his fortune was placed in trust with the provision that income be paid to support health-related ministries that provide medical service for the poor, specifically people of African-American descent, and provide homes for disadvantaged children and the elderly of all ethnicities. Funds may also be awarded for building and rehabilitation projects. Over $6 million has been allocated since 1958 for worthy projects.

The Harry R. Kendall Leadership Development Scholarship
Grants are made annually to person of African-American descent, who are pursuing a health-related career or already a practioner in the health care field. There are no age limits. Awards are primarily based on need and potential.

These grants are to encourage and aid local churches to make their facilities and activities accessible to people with disabilities, fulfilling the goal of each local church as defined in the Resolution of the 1980 General Conference, The Church and People with Mental, Physical and/or Psychologically Handicapping Conditions. Grants are available to United Methodist local churches and charges only. Only one grant will be made to a local church or charge
