Mission Initiatives
Since the mid-1990s, the General Board of Global Ministries has organized initiatives that have either renewed or started new mission work that together are responsible for 450 new congregations and thousands of new United Methodists in Eastern Europe, Asia, West Africa, and Central America.
On a regular basis, Mission Initiative participants from around the world come together in consultations to worship, share, testify to the acts of God, encourage one another, and grow in faith. These events are listed on Global Ministries' online calendar.
Related to this work is the In Mission Together program. More than 800 United Methodist churches in the United States are connected to congregations in all parts of the world as mission partners. In these mission relationships new churches are established and existing ones are strengthened. Lay and clergy leaders are trained and affirmed, the hungry are fed, the sick are tended, and those in prison are visited.
